Dr. Seyed Mohammad Hosseini is a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer in structural engineering at McGill University. He earned his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Université de Sherbrooke and both his M.Sc. and B.Sc. from Isfahan University of Technology in Iran. His primary research expertise includes the application of fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) reinforcement as internal reinforcement in reinforced concrete (RC) structures, strengthening and seismic retrofitting of existing RC structures using FRP composites, and the behavior and application of ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC). During his postdoctoral tenure, he is leading an extensive research project focused on advancing the seismic performance and design of GFRP-RC structures. Additionally, he is contributing to a project aimed at maximizing the reinforcement ratio in UHPC beams. His Ph.D. research was pioneering in the use of GFRP reinforcement in precast concrete tunnel lining segments. During his M.Sc. studies, he conducted several research projects on strengthening and seismic retrofitting of RC elements using FRP composites. Notably, he introduced the concept of shear-flexural retrofit for RC short columns and proposed novel strengthening systems to enhance their shear capacity, flexural capacity, and ductility.
